"مک تیگ" (گاولند)، معدنچی سابق بهعنوان دندانپزشک در سنفرانسیسکو شروع بهکار میکند و با "ترینا" (پیتس) دختر مهاجر المانی ازدواج میکند. پس از بهدست آوردن مقدار زیادی پول در بختآزمائی، "ترینا" حرص و طمعش برانگیخته میشود و "مکتیگ" که در اثر رقابت "مارکوس" (هرشولت) کارش را از دست داده است، به نوشخواری روی میآورد و در اوج عصبانیت همسرش را میکشد. سرانجام نیز در دره مرگ با "مارکوس" روبهرو میشود و او را هم میکشد. اما برای "مکتیگ" راه گریزی نیست چرا که با دستبندی به جسد "مارکوس" پیوند خورده...
